Foleo typing

Tealpoint is one of the third-party software vendors on board for the Foleo. I've not used a lot of their applications, but PDA folks seem to like them. What I do know, however, is that whoever wrote the Foleo overview on their site clearly understands the potential the Foleo has to bring us truly mobile computing.

[The Foleo] concentrates on the tasks most people need 90% of the time, such as web browsing, word processing, presentations, and email. By doing so, it can give a better experience while avoiding a lot of the pitfalls of lugging around a full-blown laptop.

One thing you'll notice is that not once on their page do they describe the Foleo as a companion to your smartphone.

Anyhow, the full article is worth a read. Very clear.

Thanks for posting this. Seriously, Palm should take TealPoint’s talking points.
I am in the market for a Foleo because of the 90 percent rule. I don’t need the other 10 percent of a notebook that makes it slower to use, bulkier, more fragile and virus prone :).

Seconded. This bit is particularly pertinent:

“A few years ago, laptops were purely secondary computing devices. They were designed for long battery life and portability because we all had full desktops at home or work. That’s no longer true, however, as more and more people use a laptop as their only computer. Consequently, laptops have bloated to meet this need, and are now often so big, run so hot, and drain so quickly that their portability has been compromised.”

I do still have a desktop machine at home (Mac Mini, in our shared home office), but only because I was worried about relying on a fragile laptop as my main computer. Once I get a Foleo, I plan to leave my MacBook on my desk a lot more…

Wow, that is a good overview. Palm’s site is obviously more attractive and stuff, but the Tealpoint’s text is wonderful.

I’m forwarding it to my partner who is also digging the Foleo.

    I agree.

Although I’ve come to the conclusion that the Foleo is not for me, I’ve seriously considered it as an option for the technologically… inhibited… members of my family.

Getting them something that will do most of what they want with less need for troubleshooting n whatnot makes this device worth a second look.

In case it’s not clear, I’m unlikely to get a Foleo for myself, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’ll ultimately succeed - however one might define the term.

I went to the Tealpoint site because someone mentioned TealPaint being ported. Teal’s text was a hell of a lot more exciting than *Palm*’s text for the Foleo. Maybe Teal should handle marketing of the Foleo!
