Shifting gears

September 13th, 2007

So now we get a new Treo, some new (partial) owners, and a bunch of new job postings over at Palm. Engineering and marketing, them be the categories. (Nothing Foleo-specific, other than yesterday's listing.)

Still no Foleos on Ebay yet. Yes, I know you've been checking, too.

Anyhow, it sounds like a company with changes ahead. Wonder when we'll see the new OS. Hasn't it been promised since like 1954?

In Cane's take-two, Mike points out a wonderful Jeff Hawkins quote found in Piloting Palm by Andrea Butter and David Pogue:

"You can't be swayed by public opinion about a product that people haven't had a chance to use."

If only that were still true.

No way they’d leave that Foleo job up for another day if they weren’t working on it some more. Best news I’ve heard since the cancellation.

  2. Mike Cane Says:

FYI: I’ve been informed the repetition of the job ad might be automatic. I guess no one at Palm has noticed it’s still up (that’s if they meant to kill it along with the Foleo…).

but wouldn’t the auto renewel only happen at outside job sites? Palm’s page should have it right.

I don’t think Palm was necessarily swayed by public opinion. I think they saw some legitimate problems with the software, as well as future issues with supporting two platforms.

Of course, then I have to ask myself why the heck they didn’t handle these issues a long time ago.

    That quote seems double-sided.

For one thing, some people have had a chance to use the device.

Also, I’ve seen no objection to positive public opinions about the device.
